With really great reds, one of my personal great annoyances is the question mark of 'when would the perfect time to drink this be?' This Bellwether shiraz-malbec is drinking wonderfully right now. This is four years old already and slowing a hint of age in a really elegant way.
There's still some big fruit in here. There's blackcurrant and black berry, there's some soft spices and some pepper. There's this earthy feel. It's all just spot on.
Shiraz and malbec aren't a typical blend. What's doubly interesting here, is that both shiraz and malbec are both originally French grapes that have found bigger popularity now outside of their homelands (shiraz in Australia, and malbec in Argentina).
The balance here doesn't need food to go with it. Open it while cooking, sip through your meal, and finish by itself. A true great.
